Permeable Asphalt
Modern paving solutions with Permeable Asphalt.
Apple Driveways are excited to offer Permeable Asphalt to customers across Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, and Somerset as a modern solution to the challenges of sustainability, surface water run-off, and flood risks when providing an outdoor surface solution. Permeable Asphalt not only steps up to these challenges, but is long-lasting, hard wearing, and cost effective too.
What is Permeable Asphalt?
You’re probably familiar with traditional asphalt surfaces such as tarmac; permeable asphalt is similar but has the added benefit of allowing natural drainage of water through the bonded aggregate surface. Made up of four layers – a geo textile membrane, a granular reservoir, a permeable asphalt binder course and finally, a permeable asphalt surface course – permeable asphalt is a step up from traditional asphalt with enhanced long lasting, slip resistant, durable, and free draining benefits.
Why should you choose Permeable Asphalt?
Homeowners have a responsibility to ensure that water from their driveway (be it rainfall or your Saturday car wash) does not run-off on to an adjoining pavement or road, so permeable asphalt is a great option as it reduces the amount of surface water and therefore run-off by allowing it to seep into the ground below. Not only that, but permeable asphalt filters the water as it permeates, effectively screening contaminants such as heavy silts and metals, reducing their intake into water courses, making it a great sustainable option too. If you are concerned that the ground below your property or area you’d like surfaced has low or no permeability, then permeable asphalt can be used with a sustainable drainage system as part of an attenuation system to ensure water can still be drained away.
System A – Full infiltration
System B – Partial infiltration
System C – Full attenuation
